The Churning of the Butter

At the beginning and end of each age there is a pouring forth of hierarchal cosmic streams of energy, and as they intermittently enter the earth’s atmosphere and unite we find in this radiation that instruction best fitted for the time. Thus there is brought to birth a new period of discovery for the world.

This new force, called by Initiates “The Dayspring of Youth,” has been in activity for some time, and they who respond to it and practise this Western Yoga can enter the new era and become its instrument.

This force, now working over Western Europe and America, possesses a new vitality and energy that will bring about a severance from past and inherited conditions. Minds that respond to it are clarified, and any opposition within the atmosphere of the mental body can no longer imprison them within its rebellious aura. For practice of this Yoga attracts an atomic energy of a finer nature and transmutes the consciousness.

The Great Initiates call this “The Churning of the Butter,” the separation of the finer elements in man from the coarser. If the student responds to these finer forces he becomes aware of this manifestation within his physical body and mental atmosphere.

Exercise I

Clairvoyance

In front of a mirror, contemplate your face closely. Then pray,

My Soul, you should succeed;
My Soul, you should overcome Satan;
My Soul, take over my mind,my sentiments, my life.
You should keep the Guardian of the Threshold far away from me;
You should overcome him;
You should take power over me totally.
Amen, Amen, Amen.

Say this prayer seven times and then observe in the mirror your eyes, your pupils, the center of your pupils, the retina of your eyes. Do this once daily.

Getting Rid of a Defect

There was an early American who spent some time observing himself and came up with twelve defects which troubled him. He resolved to rid himself of them, ‘Not by hunting ten hares at once, in which case they all run free, but by hunting them one at a time.’

For a period of two months he worked exclusively on one defect at a time. At the end of two years he had eliminated his twelve worst features, which allowed him to proceed in life with much success and happiness.

This man was Benjamin Franklin.

Exercise III

Impartial Observation

In order to dissolve a psychological defect or ‘I’, it is necessary to observe impartially. Do not condemn the defect, this will only push it further into the recesses of the mind. Think of them as wary prey, startling or scaring them will only make it harder to observe them. In like fashion, do not justify or trivialize what you see, this will only strengthen the defect.

The trick is to be impartial, neither condemning nor excusing. This is like the parent driving with the children in the car. If you can keep quiet they will forget about you and in talking to each other divulge everything. But the minute you interject they will clam up.

The main objective is to understand how the defect works, what is the mechanism or process in the mind. By remaining impartial we can see and discover much.

When a defect is fully comprehended it will disappear. When there is less ego, more of the Essence can shine through. We become more conscious. Where there was once anger is now only joy. Where there was once impatience is now serenity.

Hence, those who have much will get more. Those who don’t – even what little they have will be taken away.
